{"id":474,"date":"2026-08-23T16:35:23","date_gmt":"2026-08-23T14:35:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/3d6.ovh\/?post_type=docs&#038;p=474"},"modified":"2026-08-23T16:35:23","modified_gmt":"2026-08-23T14:35:23","password":"","slug":"advantages-and-disadvantages","status":"publish","type":"docs","link":"https:\/\/3d6.ovh\/index.php\/en\/3d6\/advantages-and-disadvantages\/","title":{"rendered":"Advantages and disadvantages"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes, the additional circumstances of the situation lead to an advantage or a disadvantage for the test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If a character gains an advantage, they roll an additional die, rolling 4D6.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If a character suffers a disadvantage, they roll one less die, rolling 2D6.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If multiple circumstances affect a test, each imposing an advantage or a disadvantage, the player still only applies one modifier. If two situations offer an advantage, for example, they gain only one advantage. If the circumstances simultaneously provide an advantage and a disadvantage, the two cancel each other out. This also applies if multiple circumstances impose multiple disadvantages and only one advantage, or vice versa. In such a situation, you have neither an advantage nor a disadvantage. In short, whatever happens, a player will never roll less than 2D6 or more than 4D6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An example?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At night, in the rain, Jules has to climb a wall. Jules is accumulating 2 disadvantages (at night, and the wall made slippery by the rain). However, Jules is a soldier with the Athletics Proficiency, which is useful for climbing. He benefits from an advantage. The advantage and the multiple disadvantages cancel each other out.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Examples of advantages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Dominant position during a fight or debate (All)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Taking cover during a firefight (Physical)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Benefits from the element of surprise (All)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Benefits from recommendations (Social)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Helped by another character (All)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Examples of disadvantages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Disturbed vision (night, fog, flash\u2026)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Slippery, awkward terrain (Physical)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Injured, drugged, dizzy\u2026 (Physical, Mental)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Surprised (All)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thirsty or hungry (All)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bad reputation (Social)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Embarrassed by another character (All)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Carmen needs to crack a secret code. Luckily, that&rsquo;s her job! It&rsquo;s a difficult task, so 3 successes are required. The character has an advantage (her mastery of Technology). Her Mental score (used for decryption) is 4 (the maximum score required for a success). The player rolls 4 dice. The roll is 3, 6, 2, and 1.
