Opposed actions

When a character directly confronts an opponent in a contest to determine who is the best—a chase, a bout of arm wrestling, scanning around to find a hidden adversary, etc.—each character rolls 3D6 and compares the rolls to the appropriate characteristic. The one with the most Successes wins! In case of a tie, the Game Master may request a reroll, award the advantage to a player’s character, or declare a draw.

An example?

Pierre tries to escape a guard’s watch. He tries to sneak around but rolls no successes (with only 1 in PHYSICAL, he rolls 2, 3 and 4). The guard, on the other hand, gets 2 successes with a Physical of 3 (it’s his job after all). Pierre is spotted!

It is sometimes necessary to quantify the success or failures during a contest. In this case, it is enough to calculate the difference between the number of successes of the participants.

In the example above, the guard gets (2-0): 2 successes.
